A video surfaced from Mahoba district of Uttar Pradesh has once again raised questions on the quality of the midday meal scheme. A clip going viral on social media shows alleged negligence regarding milk given to children in a government primary school. It can be seen in the video that two half liter milk packets are being mixed in a bucket of water in the kitchen. It is alleged that this milk was later served to the children.
Only half liter milk mixed in a bucket full of water
As soon as this video went viral on social media on Friday, the education department swung into action. According to media reports, Basic Education Officer of Mahoba, Rahul Mishra said that this incident happened on Wednesday and in the investigation of the Block Education Officer, prima facie it was found that the same milk that was found in water was distributed to the children. After this, the school’s head teacher Monica Soni has been suspended with immediate effect. The department has said that a detailed investigation is underway and if any further irregularities come to light, strict action will be taken against the people concerned. It can be clearly seen in the video that the woman is pouring half a liter of milk in a bucket which is completely filled with water in the school.

This error has already come to light
This is not the first case when irregularities in midday meal have come to light. Earlier, similar cases have also been reported from Meerut, Sonbhadra and Mirzapur, where there were allegations of mixing water in milk or serving only bread and salt to children. The objective of the Central Government’s ‘PM Poshan’ scheme is to improve the nutritional level of children studying in government schools, but the emergence of such videos affects the credibility of the scheme.
