BJP has suffered a big setback in Punjab. A big political news has come to light amid talks of alliance between Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP. On Sunday (February 15), Punjab BJP Vice President and businessman and former MLA Arvind Khanna left BJP and joined Shiromani Akali Dal. Party President Sukhbir Singh Badal welcomed him in Sangrur by inducting him into the Akali Dal.

Arvind Khanna joined BJP in 2022

Arvind Khanna has been MLA twice. Earlier he had also been in Congress. He joined BJP in the year 2022. Before joining Shiromani Akali Dal, he was holding the responsibility of the post of Vice President of BJP in Punjab. He was also a member of BJP’s Punjab Core Committee and Finance Committee. Assembly elections are to be held in Punjab in the year 2027. Before this election, Sukhbir Singh Badal made a big move and succeeded in getting Arvind Khanna included in his party.

Contesting Lok Sabha elections from Sangrur seat in 2024

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP had fielded Arvind Khanna from Sangrur parliamentary seat but he had to face defeat. Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer of Aam Aadmi Party had won from this seat. Arvind Khanna has been MLA from Sangrur and Dhuri assembly constituencies, which are part of this parliamentary seat.

Arvind Khanna had contested the Lok Sabha elections in 2004 on Congress ticket. However, in this election also he had to face defeat. During this period, he was defeated by Akali Dal leader Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa in the elections. According to the election affidavit in the year 2024, Arvind Khanna’s total assets are Rs 27.1 crore and liabilities are Rs 12.6 crore. During that time Arvind Khanna had declared his annual income as Rs 21.8 lakh.
