She said, ‘Karan always says that you did not do my first film, but I tell him that I definitely wanted to do this film and you are my friend, but at that time in my career, I could not restart my career by playing the second lead after Mohra.’
She further said, ‘It was very important for me that even if there are five scenes or five songs in my film, I should act as a solo heroine. I had to start my career again, which was very difficult, but I thought it had to be done. It worked for Rani Mukherjee because she was new and young, but it was difficult for me to pick up from where I had left. This was a very difficult decision for me.
Why did Raveena reject Chaiya Chaiya song?
Raveena Tandon also revealed that she refused to work in the iconic song Chaiya Chaiya from Mani Ratnam’s 1998 film Dil Se. She said that she did not want to be tagged as an ‘item girl’. She said, ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya came, and I was very excited to do it, but I did not want to be called an ‘item girl’.
She told Mani Ratnam ji- I want to work in all your films, but unfortunately I cannot do this song. This is something that is sometimes regretted, but it is not possible to do everything in life. Again Malaika Arora worked with Shahrukh Khan in this song. This song became a huge hit and made Malaika Arora a star overnight.
