Less than a year is left for the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party, Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and Indian National Congress are busy making their respective strategies in the state. While SP and Congress can contest the elections under the banner of Indian National Inclusive Development Alliance i.e., BJP will contest with Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (Subhaspa) and weak Bharatiya Shoshit Hamara Aam Dal (Nishad Party). On the other hand, BSP is still planning to enter the field alone.
Amidst all this, Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi’s party All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) is also preparing to enter the UP elections with full strength. If the party contests the elections, it will be its fourth election.
After the assembly elections of 2017 and 2022, AIMIM had formed a front with some regional parties. This front, PDM, was formed to counter the PDA formula of SP Chief. In which backward and Dalit Muslims were talked about. This front had fielded candidates on 25 seats. However, there was not a single candidate from AIMIM in it.
Now for the 2027 elections, it is claimed that AIMIM can form an alliance with BSP. In such a situation, questions are being raised that what is the past history of AIMIM in this regard, which is eager to form an alliance in the state? Along with this, it is also being talked about that what is the position of AIMIM which is trying to enter the state by riding the elephant of BSP?
Let us tell you that AIMIM had contested the 2017 UP Assembly elections on 38 seats. The party’s deposits were forfeited on 37 seats. AIMIM had got 2,04,142 votes in this election. The seats on which AIMIM contested were mainly Muslim dominated seats of Western Uttar Pradesh. On the other hand, in 2022, AIMIM contested 95 seats and got only .49% votes.
How effective was Owaisi’s alliance in the 2024 elections?
AIMIM, which formed the PDM front in the 2024 elections, did not field any candidate, but other parties also did not get the benefit of its support. In this election, Pallavi Patel, leader of Apna Dal Kamerawadi, fielded candidates and got only .4 percent of the total votes and the result was zero. In such a situation, it is clear that Apna Dal Kamerawadi did not benefit from AIMIM’s association.
How fit will Owaisi be with BSP?
Talking about BSP, it got 9.46 percent of the total votes in the Lok Sabha elections. However, his account was not opened in the Lok Sabha. BSP also has only 1 MLA in the assembly. According to political experts, even if AIMIM and BSP come together, there is no hope of any big magic at the moment.
Now it will be interesting to see what will be the upcoming strategy of AIMIM in UP and how strongly it will reach the ground.
