Does Lunar Eclipse Affect Pregnancy?: The first lunar eclipse of the year 2026 is going to occur on Tuesday i.e. March 3. This year, in just 15 days of the solar eclipse, the lunar eclipse is taking place on the day of Phalgun Shukla Purnima. There are many types of beliefs prevalent regarding pregnancy in our society. In ancient times, when an eclipse was considered a mysterious and rare event, it was believed that at such times cosmic powers become active and can have an impact on the Earth. For this reason, pregnant women have been advised to take special precautions during the eclipse. Although these traditions are based on cultural beliefs, modern science does not support these claims. Let us tell you.

Do the rays of the eclipse harm the fetus?

Dr. Shital Bankar MD Homeopath, Pune told in one of his blogs that lunar eclipse does not cause any harm during pregnancy, this has been scientifically proven. Scientifically, there is no evidence that a lunar eclipse releases any kind of harmful radiation. This is simply the Earth’s shadow falling on the Moon. This does not have any biological effect on the baby growing in the womb. Research has also not found any connection between the eclipse and miscarriage or any problem in fetal development.

Should one not eat food during eclipse?

In some traditions, fasting is advised during the eclipse. But according to doctors, regular and balanced diet is necessary during pregnancy. Staying hungry for a long time can reduce blood sugar, which can lead to weakness and dehydration. Therefore, pregnant women must take food and adequate water on time.

Is it dangerous to go out during the eclipse?

Unlike a solar eclipse, a lunar eclipse is completely safe to view with the naked eye. This does not cause any harm to the eyes or body. If the weather is favorable and the woman feels comfortable, then it is safe to go out and look at the moon. The real danger may only be uncomfortable weather or fatigue, not the eclipse itself.

Is the use of sharp or pointed objects harmful?

This belief also goes beyond scientific basis that using knife, needle or scissors during eclipse can cause birth defects in the child. Birth defects are caused by genetic or environmental factors, not by astronomical events.

What should pregnant women do?

Experts believe that the most important things during pregnancy are balanced diet, adequate rest, avoidance of stress and regular check-ups. If a woman wants to follow cultural traditions like resting, praying or cooking fresh food after the eclipse, that is her personal choice.
