8th Pay Commission News: Since the approval for the formation of the 8th Pay Commission, its meetings have been going on continuously. A two-day meeting has started in Kolkata only yesterday. Which is going to continue till 10th July i.e. tonight. Meanwhile, now the railway employees have put forward their new demands before the commission even before the result of the meeting comes.
New demands of railway engineers
In fact, according to the report of The Indian Express, recently a meeting of All India Railway Engineers Federation (AIREF) and East Coast Railway Engineers Association (ECoREA) was held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. In this meeting, a memorandum of its demands was submitted to Pankaj Jain, Member Secretary of the 8th Pay Commission. In which railway engineers have demanded from the Commission to solve the long standing problems in salary, promotion and career. He has said that after the 6th Pay Commission, their salary system has become weak.

What did the secretary of the organization say?
Talking about this, AIREF General Secretary B.P. Das said, ‘Railway engineers play an important role in railway operations, but they get less better salaries and facilities than non-technical and non-safety department employees. He demanded restoration of the pay system as before the 6th Pay Commission and giving Group-B status to railway engineers like other central government departments.
Focus on Group B posts and promotion
In this meeting, the Federation also said that the number of Group-B posts in Railways should be increased from the current 0.29% to 7.5%, so that it can be at par with the national average. Apart from this, the officials of the organization also told in the meeting that railway engineers do not get promotion for many years, due to which their career growth stops.
Let us tell you that this meeting was part of the ongoing consultation process of the 8th Pay Commission across the country. The Commission will prepare its final recommendations on pay, pension and allowances after taking suggestions from employee organizations, pensioners and other parties. The commission is going to prepare its report after the last round of meeting on July 10 in Kolkata.
