South Africa has previously faltered in the pressure-packed knockout matches of ICC tournaments, earning it the nickname of ‘choker’.
Speaking to reporters after the first semi-final, Conrad said, “I don’t know whether tonight’s match was like a choke or not. I thought it was like a loss. You could have presented a bit of a challenge, but there was no glimpse of that in today’s match. In South Africa we use a word for it ‘moard’ (losing badly).”
Conrad did not stop here and used a South African idiom to explain his team’s crushing defeat. Conrad said, “Tonight we got a solid ‘snotclap’. It’s an African word that means a hard spanking, a hard slap that you don’t expect. That’s exactly what we felt.”
