A Union Minister, two former state presidents and four Christians…how did BJP manage the equation in the first list in Kerala?

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday (16 March) released its first list of 47 candidates for the Kerala Assembly elections. BJP has fielded former Union Ministers Rajeev Chandrasekhar from Nemam assembly seat and V Muraleedharan from Kazhakoottam assembly seat. With these two big leaders, the party has tried to solve political and caste equations in the first list.

Who did BJP give the ticket to?

The list of BJP candidates in Kerala includes a sitting Union Minister, two former ministers, two former party presidents, seven members of the Scheduled Caste community and four candidates from the Christian community. The party has fielded former Union Minister George Kurien from Kanjirapally, while PC George Poonjar will try his luck from the assembly seat. R Sreelekha Vattiyoorkavu and Padmaja Venugopal will be candidates from Thrissur seat.

R Rashmi will contest elections from Kottarakkara

Apart from this, Raji Prasad will contest from Kunnathur seat reserved for Scheduled Caste, while R Rashmi will contest from Kottarakkara. The party has fielded Sobha Surendran from Palakkad, Navya Haridas from Kozhikode North and Kavitha KS from Sultan Bathery (reserved) seat. Voting for the assembly in Kerala will be held on April 9 while the counting of votes will take place on May 4.

What did BJP state president Rajiv Chandrashekhar say?

After being named as the candidate from Nemam Assembly seat, Kerala BJP President Rajeev Chandrasekhar said, ‘The first list of 47 candidates declared today shows how serious we are about this election. The list includes one sitting Union Minister, two former ministers, two former party presidents, seven members of the Scheduled Caste community and four candidates from the Christian community. This is a very well organized list of candidates. This is the most decisive election in the political history of Kerala. I feel really proud to get the opportunity to contest elections. I am starting my campaign today with a road show and meeting voters.

Apart from this, Shobha Surendran from Palakkad, KK Vinod Kumar from Azhikode, C Raghunath from Kannur, P Shyam Raj from Mananthavady, Kavita A from Sultanbathery. S, Advocate K Dilip from Vadakara, Ramdas Manleri from Kuttiady, CP Vipin Chandran from Nadapuram, CR Praful Krishnan from Koyilandy have been given tickets.

Apart from this, CP Satheesan from Balussery, T Devadas from Elathur, Navya Haridas from Kozhikode North, T Ranish from Kozhikode South, KP Prakash Babu from Beypore, VK Sanjeevan from Kunnamangalam, Shoranur Shanku T Das, Major Ravi from Ottapalam, C Krishnakumar from Malampuzha, K Balakrishnan from Chelakkara, Thrissur Padmaja Venugopal, Santosh Cherakkulam from Irinjalakuda, S Rajendran from Devikulam, Sean George from Pala, K Ajith from Vaikom, George Kurien from Kanjirapally, PC George from Poonjoor have been given tickets.

Arun Anirudhan from Ambalapuzha, Sandeep Vachaspathy from Haripad, MV Gopakumar from Chengannur, Anup Antony Joseph from Tiruvalla, Raji Prasad from Kunnathur, R Rashmi from Kottarakkara, BB Gopakumar from Chathannur, P Sudheer from Attingal, V Muraleedharan from Kazhakoottam, Girish Neyyar from Parasala, PK from Kattakada. Haridas has got the ticket.
