Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi formally launched Congress’s 2027 assembly election campaign from Almora, Uttarakhand. Although his schedule to reach Almora was affected due to bad weather, he tried to instill enthusiasm among the workers and supporters by addressing the public meeting through phone.
Rahul Gandhi reached the state on Thursday on a two-day visit to Uttarakhand. His first major program was a public meeting held at Simkali Maidan in Almora, where a large number of Congress workers and local people gathered. But after taking off from Pantnagar Airport to Almora, his helicopter had to return back to Pantnagar due to bad weather and low visibility. Due to security reasons, further flight was not allowed.

However the program was not cancelled. While addressing the public meeting through phone, Rahul Gandhi called upon the Congress workers to strengthen the organization and intensify the struggle on public issues. Congress is considering this tour as an important step towards strengthening the organization and deciding the political strategy before the 2027 assembly elections. During the tour, Rahul Gandhi also has a program to meet ex-servicemen in Pauri Garhwal.
Congress believes that in a military-dominated state like Uttarakhand, the issues of ex-servicemen and their families are politically important. Rahul Gandhi will interact with ex-servicemen at Kandolia Maidan and listen to their problems and suggestions. On the second day of the tour, Rahul Gandhi will hold a meeting with Congress leaders and workers in Dehradun. During this, there is a possibility of discussion on organizational strength, booth level preparation and strategy for 2027 assembly elections.
At the same time, Bharatiya Janata Party has targeted Rahul Gandhi’s tour. Ganesh Joshi, minister in the Uttarakhand government, said that wherever Rahul Gandhi goes, ultimately the BJP gets political benefit. He even called Rahul Gandhi the “star campaigner” of BJP.
Rahul Gandhi wants to meet Ankita Bhandari’s family
This visit was considered very important politically, especially regarding the Ankita Bhandari murder case. Rahul Gandhi wanted to meet the victim’s family in this case and express his support and could also raise questions on the state government, but the weather completely ruined his program. According to Congress sources, this visit of Rahul Gandhi can be rescheduled later, when the weather will be completely favourable. At present, the party leadership is keeping an eye on the situation and the possibilities of a new program are being considered.
