BJP has simultaneously released the first and complete list of candidates for the assembly elections to be held in Assam on 9 April 2026. The party has declared the names of its candidates on a total of 89 seats, out of which 88 names were initially announced and the rest were completed soon. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma had already said that BJP will release the list of all the candidates at once and this is what has happened.
Pradyut Bordoloi got the most special seat
Lok Sabha MP Pradyut Bordoloi, who resigned from Congress and joined BJP, has been made the candidate from Dispur seat. Dispur is considered to be the most prestigious and high-profile seat of Assam. Pradyut Bordoloi had resigned from Congress on Tuesday and joined BJP on Wednesday in the presence of Himanta Biswa Sarma. CM Himanta said that this step will strengthen the party. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma himself will contest from Jalukbari seat. This is his old seat and he has been consistently performing strongly from here.
