The politics of Tamil Nadu is becoming interesting regarding the assembly elections. Amidst the round of allegations and counter-allegations, South’s superstar Vijay’s newly formed party Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) is also in the headlines. Senior AIADMK leader K. T Rajendra Balaji has rejected speculations of alliance with TVK in the upcoming elections.
He said that the actor’s entry into politics will not bring any change in the current political scenario and AIADMK remains the only strong alternative to the ruling DMK. AIADMK leaders have not gone to talk to him. Balaji told reporters, “If no one joins hands, we will have to stand alone and we are ready for it.”
According to PTI, without naming NDA, Vijay on Wednesday termed the claims of alliance talks for the elections as false. He insisted that TVK is a ‘people’s team’ and rejected the allegation that his party acts as a supporting team of any dominant party. However, Vijay did not tell who made this allegation.
What did Vijay say about the alliance?
Addressing an Iftar program in Mamallapuram, Vijay said that when other efforts did not succeed, his rivals ran a false campaign that TVK would choose the alliance path in the elections. Due to this, confusion may arise among the workers, because there are reports that TVK may go into alliance. Therefore, he announced that we are firm on the fact that we will lead the government after a big victory in the elections. There will be no compromise on the principles of secular and social justice.
After his second visit to Delhi this month, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami claimed that seat-sharing discussions are going on smoothly among the parties involved in his party-led NDA in Tamil Nadu. Pointing towards the single-phase assembly elections to be held on April 23, the AIADMK leader said that the official announcement of seat sharing among the alliance parties will be made in the coming days.
Discussion on alliance with NDA continues – AIADMK
Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Tamil Nadu Assembly Palaniswami told reporters, “Discussions are underway on seat sharing among the parties involved in the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance in Tamil Nadu. An official announcement giving details of constituencies allotted to each party will be made within 4 days.” Palaniswami also rejected the possibility of an alliance with actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party TVK. Palaniswami said, “There have been no talks with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.”
What did MK Stalin say?
Amidst all this, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has strongly criticized opposition leader Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS). Palaniswami had come to Delhi to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah on March 19, 2026 for talks on seat sharing.
In his letter to the DMK cadre, Stalin said, “The actions of the opposition show that decisions are being taken in Delhi. Are they to secure funds for Tamil Nadu? To complete stalled projects? To protect the rights of the state? No. Their focus is elsewhere. The people understand this clearly. The people of Tamil Nadu will never allow Delhi or those acting as its representatives to dominate. They know that for the rights and development of the state Who is standing?”
