Congress Party has released its first list of candidates for the assembly elections to be held in West Bengal. Congress has announced the names of its candidates for a total of 284 assembly seats in the first list. The name of Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary, who was the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, is also included in this list. The party has made him its candidate from Baharampur assembly seat of West Bengal.
Congress shared the list of candidates in X post
The Congress party shared a post on social media platform X on Sunday (March 29, 2026). In the post, the party announced the names of its candidates for 284 seats for the West Bengal Assembly elections 2026.

Party made Mausam Noor its candidate from Maltipur seat
Mausam Noor’s name is also included in the list of Congress candidates. Mausam Noor has been a Congress MP in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Parliament, whose tenure ended recently. After the end of the tenure of Rajya Sabha, Congress has expressed confidence in Mausam Noor and has now given him the ticket for assembly elections from Maltipur seat of West Bengal.
Congress fielded candidates against Mamata Banerjee and Suvendu Adhikari
Apart from this, Congress has made Pradeep Prasad its candidate from Bhawanipur assembly seat of West Bengal. Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate and state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is contesting against Pradeep Prasad on Bhawanipur assembly seat. Apart from Mamata Banerjee, Leader of Opposition in Bengal Assembly and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Suvendu Adhikari is also contesting from Bhawanipur seat. In such a situation, the election contest on Bhawanipur assembly seat will be very exciting.
Whereas in Nandigram Assembly seat of West Bengal, Congress candidate SK Zariatul Hussain will face the election contest against Assembly Leader of Opposition and BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari.
Assembly elections will be held in two phases in West Bengal
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has organized elections for the 294-seat West Bengal Assembly in two phases. The Election Commission said that the first phase of elections in Bengal will be held on April 23, 2026, while the second phase of elections will be held on April 29, 2026. After the elections, counting of votes and declaration of results will be done on May 4, 2026.
