There was a stampede among the devotees during the morning puja on Tuesday (March 31, 2026) in Sheetala temple under Deepnagar police station area of ​​Nalanda. This accident took the lives of 9 people. Of these, 8 are women and one is male. This death toll is till noon. There is also a possibility of the number increasing. Read what has happened so far.

1) Nalanda SP Bharat Soni said that this entire matter is being investigated. SIT has been formed. CCTV footage is being scrutinized. Information about such a huge crowd was not given by the local people or any member of the temple, hence there was a lack of police force.

2) ADG Kundan Krishnan also reached the spot. Examined the temple premises. ADG said that strict action will be taken in this matter. Said that the incident occurred due to excessive heat. Because the temple complex is small, more devotees had come today.

3) After the accident, post mortem of the dead bodies was done at Bihar Sharif Sadar Hospital. On the other hand, the family members of the deceased also created a ruckus in the hospital premises. There was a ruckus near the post-mortem room also. The family members have accused the police administration of negligence.

4) It is said that every Tuesday a crowd of devotees gather in the temple premises to worship Maa Shitala. Today was Tuesday so a large number of devotees had arrived. People say that some people were being allowed to enter the temple premises from behind due to which such an incident took place.

5) Till the time of writing the news, some people among those who died could not be identified. The deceased include Devanti Devi, Rekha Devi, Malo Devi, Chinta Devi, Kanti Devi.

6) Major action has been taken regarding this incident in Nalanda. Deepnagar police station in-charge Rajmani has been suspended regarding the stampede. The accused has fallen on charges of negligence.

7) In this accident, three injured devotees have been referred to Patna from Bihar Sharif Sadar Hospital. The condition of the referred devotees is critical. The number of deaths may increase.

8) Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has directed to give ex-gratia grant of Rs 04-04 lakh from the Disaster Management Department and Rs 02-02 lakh (total Rs 06 lakh) from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to the dependents of the deceased. He also expressed grief over this incident.

9) Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, BJP state president Sanjay Saraogi and many other leaders have also expressed condolences. Everyone wished for the speedy recovery of the injured. Prayed for the peace of the souls of the dead.

10) BJP MLA Maithili Thakur said, “What happened was very sad. This should not happen at all. We should also prepare such a system so that it does not happen in future… We pray for the departed souls… They have also been given assistance from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund, although no amount is bigger than a person’s life. We all pray and we try to ensure that such incidents do not happen in the coming days…”
