Plate became cheaper amid war, potato and onion gave relief, know the condition of veg and non-veg plate

Crisil Report on Nonveg Thali: Amidst the war in Iran, a shocking report has come out in the CRISIL report. According to this, in March 2026, the price of home-made non-veg thali has declined by one percent as compared to last year. Whereas the prices of vegetarian thali remained stable during this period.

In fact, the decline in the prices of potatoes, onions and pulses during this period has compensated for the increasing expenses related to tomatoes, vegetable oil and fuel, due to which the difference in prices is being seen.

Disclosure in Crisil report

According to Crisil Intelligence’s recent ‘Roti Rice Rates’ report, the average cost of making a veg and non-veg thali was calculated based on the input prices prevailing across North, South, East and West India. In this monthly report, the impact of these price changes on the expenditure of the common man has been shown and special items like grains, broiler chicken and spices have been cited as the main reasons for this change.

The report said, “The price of non-veg thali declined by 1 percent in March compared to last year, while the price of veg thali remained stable. This was because lower prices of potatoes, onions and pulses offset the impact of increased prices of tomatoes, vegetable oil and fuel.”

This is how the cost was balanced

Of course, in March this year, amid tensions in West Asia, the prices of edible oil (6%), cooking gas (14%), tomato (33%) increased, but meanwhile, the reduced prices of potatoes and onions reduced the rising costs. Non-veg thali also became cheaper by 1 percent in March 2026 as compared to March 2025 because the prices of broilers have fallen by 2 percent during this period.

Why did potatoes and onions become cheaper?

In March, the price of potatoes fell by 13 percent and the price of onion fell by 25 percent. This is because the arrival of these crops was bumper during this period. On top of this, due to difficulties in exports due to the war, the stock in the country increased. Old stocks started being taken out from cold storage and markets, due to which the prices came down.

Why did the price of broiler decrease?

Firstly, due to Navratri in March the demand decreased. On top of this, due to dispute between chicken retailers and poultry companies over profit margin in some parts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, the price also declined by 2 percent.
