Indian Railway: Indian Railways is one of the largest rail networks in the world, in which millions of people travel every day. If we talk about every day, about 14 thousand trains run and about 2.80 crore passengers travel, but do you know that there is also a train service from India, which takes you across the borders of the country to another country?
Most people think that the Attari border train running between India and Pakistan is the only such international train, but this is not completely correct. Many passenger trains have also been running between India and Bangladesh, which connect both the countries by rail. However, at present these services have been temporarily stopped.
This train connects India-Bangladesh
Let us tell you that the most famous train between India and Bangladesh is Maitri Express, which used to run between Kolkata and Dhaka. This train, covering a distance of about 380 kilometers, took about 8 to 9 hours to reach its destination. All the coaches of this train were equipped with AC. In which facilities like AC first class and chair car were available. This service was started in the year 2008, but it was suspended indefinitely from August 2024.
Apart from Maitri Express, two more trains also ran between India and Bangladesh. These include Bandhan Express and Mithali Express. Bandhan Express ran between Kolkata and Khulna and covered the distance of about 172 kilometers in 4 to 5 hours. This train was started in the year 2017. At the same time, Mithali Express used to go from New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal to Dhaka Cantonment, which covered a distance of about 513 kilometers in 9 to 10 hours. This service was started in the year 2022.
Goods trains resume operations
However, in the year 2024, due to the political situation and bitterness in relations between India and Bangladesh, all these passenger trains were stopped. But now the situation seems to be changing gradually. After the formation of the new government in Bangladesh, there are signs of improvement in relations between the two countries. First the operation of goods trains has been resumed and now discussions are going on to restore passenger trains also.
Special emphasis is being laid on restarting Mithali Express soon, because this train connects important cities of both the countries and was used by a large number of passengers. In such a situation, it is expected that in the coming time, rail services between India and Bangladesh can once again be back on track.
