This surge in oil prices has come amid the failure to negotiate on ceasefire between America and Iran and Trump’s threats to close the Strait of Hormuz.

In fact, the 21-hour peace talks between America and Iran in Islamabad, Pakistan ended without any result. After this, US President Donald Trump announced the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which will become effective today at 14:00 GMT as per international time.

Why are prices stable after the rise in crude oil?
Despite the rise in crude oil prices in the international markets, the government and oil marketing companies (OMCs) have not increased the prices of petrol and diesel in the country at present so that inflation remains under control.
The government has also recently reduced the excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 10 per liter to reduce the impact of rising crude oil prices. Excise duty on petrol has been reduced from Rs 13 per liter to Rs 3 per liter and Rs 10 duty on diesel has been completely abolished.
The thing to keep in mind here is that the benefit of this reduction is not being passed directly to the customers, rather it has been used to reduce the losses of oil companies like IOCL, BPCL so that they cannot increase the prices.
