‘If we weren’t there, you would be speaking French’, King Charles made fun of Donald Trump at the White House dinner!

Britain’s King Charles III told US President Donald Trump during the state dinner at the White House on Tuesday that if the United Kingdom had not existed, Americans would probably be speaking ‘French’ today. The British King said this jokingly while referring to Trump’s past remarks.

King Charles joked, ‘Mr. President, you recently said that if the United States had not existed, European countries would have been speaking German. Can I say that if we weren’t there you would be speaking French.

Charles was talking about places of British and French origin in America, where 250 years ago there was a battle between France and Britain for control of the continent. In fact, Trump had said at the Davos Summit earlier this year that without America’s help in the Second World War, ‘you would have been speaking German and a little Japanese.’

What else did King Charles say?

However, that warmth was visible in King Charles’s light-hearted talk, when despite tensions over the war in Iran, he and Trump grew closer due to the special relationship between London and Washington. He made fun of Trump and said that he could not help but see the ‘readjustment’ taking place in the East Wing of the White House, which Trump has demolished to build a grand ballroom worth $400 million.

He said, ‘I am sad to say that we, the British people, of course, made our own effort to redevelop the real estate of the White House in 1814, when British soldiers set fire to the building. Charles also joked that the dinner was ‘much better than the Boston Tea Party’, when the colony threw ships full of taxed British tea into the sea in 1773.

Donald Trump is a big fan of the British Royals and his mother was from Scotland. He saves most of his jokes for domestic targets. He said, ‘I want to congratulate Charles for giving a wonderful speech in Congress today. He set up the Democrats, I could never do that.

Meanwhile, King Charles brought a gift that was part of the British charm on Trump as he criticized Prime Minister Keir Starmer for refusing to help against Iran. Charles gifted the President the bell of the British submarine HMS Trump, which was launched in 1944 during the Second World War. “Let this be a testament to our countries’ shared history and bright future, and if you ever want to meet us, just give us a call,” King said to applause.
