After the completion of the assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, on Friday (May 1, 2026), an incident of arson has come to light in the election office of Thalapathy Vijay’s party Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) located in Srirangam assembly constituency of Tiruchirappalli district. Along with this, all the posters and banners of the party kept from the office have also been torn. Thalapathy Vijay’s party TVK has lodged a formal complaint with the local police regarding this incident. Apart from this, the party has also demanded intervention of the Election Commission in the matter.
TVK candidate accused unknown people
TVK candidate from Srirangam assembly constituency in Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) district, TVK Ramesh, has criticized the arson at the party election office. He has raised a question regarding this matter whether the counting of votes in Srirangam assembly constituency will be done in a safe environment?
He said, ‘My election office located in Pettavaithalai area of Andanallur Union of Srirangal Assembly constituency of Trichy has been completely destroyed by fire by unknown people today Friday (May 1, 2026) morning. All the banners and posters put up there have also been torn down.
The party’s union secretary reached the police station to lodge a complaint.
Following the incident, the union secretary of Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) has formally lodged a complaint at the local police station on charges of arson at the election office and destruction of party property. He has demanded the police to identify the culprits as soon as possible, arrest them and take immediate strict action against them.
Counting of votes to be held in Tamil Nadu on May 4
It is noteworthy that the assembly elections in Tamil Nadu were concluded last week on Thursday (April 23, 2026) with a single phase of voting. Now the counting of votes received in the elections and the results will be announced by the Election Commission on Monday (May 4, 2026). It is worth noting that this time in the exit polls that came out after the elections, TVK has been shown getting a lot of support from the people of Tamil Nadu.
