BJP started ‘Mission Punjab’ from the stage decorated for PM Modi, this slogan was raised from BJP headquarters, political temperature increased!

The next target of the Bharatiya Janata Party, which won a landslide victory in West Bengal, Assam and Puducherry, is now the Punjab Assembly elections 2027. Before the program of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the headquarters of Bharatiya Janata Party in the national capital Delhi, a slogan was raised on the stage that ‘Bengal has won Punjab’s turn.’ During this, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah were present on the stage.

It is noteworthy that the electoral performance of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Punjab has gone through ups and downs in the last decade. Fighting in alliance with Shiromani Akali Dal in the 2012 assembly elections, BJP secured about 7.18 percent votes and won 12 seats. In the year 2017, this figure reduced to about 5.39 percent votes and was limited to 3 seats.

BJP fought alone in 2022

In the 2022 assembly elections, BJP contested alone for the first time on a large scale. In this election, the party got about 6.60 percent votes and could win 2 seats. Performance in terms of seats was limited, but there was a slight increase in vote share.

Bengal Election Results 2026: CM Bhagwant Mann said on Bengal results, ‘BJP plans to do this in Punjab…’

BJP’s performance in the Lok Sabha elections also has gone through different phases. In 2014, in alliance with Akali Dal, the party contested elections on limited seats and won 2 seats. In the year 2019 also, the alliance remained intact and BJP again won 2 seats, while its vote share remained around 9.6 percent.

What happened in 2024?

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP, contesting alone in Punjab, recorded a big jump in its vote share. The party’s vote share increased to around 18.5 percent, although it could not win any seats. This election result shows that despite the increase in vote percentage, the challenge of converting seats still remains.

According to electoral trends, BJP’s influence has been mainly concentrated in urban areas. The party got relatively better support in cities and surrounding assembly constituencies like Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Pathankot, while the party’s performance remained weak in rural and Malwa regions.

Data from the last three Lok Sabha elections and three assembly elections indicate that BJP’s political base in Punjab is gradually expanding, but it is facing challenges.

What is BJP’s planning?

Delhi government minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa also indicated that now BJP’s next mission is Punjab. Sirsa told journalists in Delhi that after the victory of Bengal, he will now go to Punjab. The people of Punjab and Bengal think alike. Through this statement, Sirsa tried to give the message that BJP will now make a dent in the political fort of Punjab.

This step of Raghav Chadha is shocking, whom will the BJP MP meet before CM Bhagwant Mann?

Amidst all this, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said after the results of five states that whatever BJP has done in Bengal, BJP should not think of doing the same in Punjab. Mann said that BJP is day dreaming.

In fact, recently, 6 common man Rajya Sabha MPs from Punjab had switched sides and joined BJP. BJP Chief herself has announced to contest elections on all 117 seats without any alliance. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see what strategy the BJP makes before the upcoming elections and how the Aam Aadmi Party will respond to it.
