The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is preparing to rein in the cricketers playing in the Indian Premier League. The board can especially take major steps to end ‘girlfriend culture’. In fact, Hardik Pandya, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Arshdeep Singh and Ishan Kishan have been constantly seen traveling in the team bus with their girlfriends/partners and staying in the team hotel.

According to Dainik Jagran, players are worried about the increasing influence of their partners. In the last few years, the relationships of some cricketers have become a cause of big controversy for them. In some cases, the female partner has even lodged a complaint with the police, which tarnishes the image of the player, the Indian Premier League and the BCCI.

A senior BCCI official said that if this ‘girlfriend culture’ is not stopped now, it may lead to big controversies in the future. Such examples have also been seen that the team remains stuck only because of the partner of a player. There is also news of these partners staying in the team hotel.

According to the same report, Anti-Corruption Unit officials allowed some players to stay with their girlfriends because their relationship is public and not hidden from anyone. This top BCCI official said that he is unaware of this ‘official girlfriend’ rule and there is no such rule in the board’s policy. Players will be allowed to stay with their wife or family member only under special circumstances.

This topic can be considered in the next meeting of BCCI, after which some new rules regarding ‘girlfriend culture’ may emerge. These rules can be applied not only on IPL but also on Team India going on international tour.
