Aam Janata Unnayan Party President Humayun Kabir on Wednesday (May 6, 2026) moved the Calcutta High Court seeking intervention to stop post-poll violence in West Bengal. Humayun Kabir alleged that large-scale politically motivated and planned violence took place in Murshidabad district after the declaration of West Bengal Assembly election results on May 4.
In the petition filed in the court, he said that the houses of his party workers were vandalized and his workers were beaten. He has filed a case in the division bench of Chief Justice Sujoy Paul and Justice Partha Sarathi Sen and demanded immediate action.
The Aam Janata Unnayan Party leader’s petition demands the court to ensure a fair investigation, safety of party workers and maintain peace and order in the area. Humayun Kabir’s lawyer told that during the first phase of elections (April 23), Kabir was also attacked by anti-social elements and his car was vandalized. Besides, his party workers were also harassed, but the police did not register any complaint in these cases.

He said that due to administrative failure, he has demanded the court to take immediate steps to maintain peace and order and has requested for a fair investigation. Let us tell you that the results of West Bengal Assembly elections were declared on May 4. In this election, Humayun Kabir won two seats in Murshidabad district.

In this election, BJP won power in West Bengal and the 15-year rule of Trinamool Congress came to an end. BJP got a total of 207 seats while Trinamool Congress got 80 seats. Meanwhile, after the declaration of results, incidents of violence have come to light in many areas of the state including South 24 Parganas. There have been allegations of attacks on Trinamool Congress workers and vandalism of party offices. Police have said that strict action will be taken against those involved in such activities.
