Delhi Metro On Alert: We all know that Delhi Metro is also called the ‘lifeline’ of the capital. But, these days a deep crisis is looming over Delhi Metro. Actually, ‘cable thief’ has created panic all around for Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Delhi Police. The news of theft of precious copper cable used for power supply in Delhi Metro has created a new problem for Delhi Metro. Due to which this whole matter is not only making headlines on social media but is also causing inconvenience to the passengers.
How did cable theft increase Metro’s crisis?
According to the information given by DMRC, in recent months, the incidents of theft of high-tension and cables lying along the metro tracks have completely given sleepless nights to the metro administration. Actually, if the cable is cut, the signaling system fails completely, due to which trains have to face many problems in running. Not only this, by doing this the passengers going during peak hours not only waste their time but also have to wait for the train to arrive at the right time. So, after this act of thieves, apart from the financial loss for DMRC, the metro is facing big challenges in operating it.

According to the information, these are those areas where there are slums near the track, deserted areas or where the height of the boundary wall is the lowest.
Talking about the 13 sensitive routes, the first is the Blue Line, which includes parts of Yamuna Bank, Mayur Vihar and Anand Vihar. The second is the Red Line route, in which open tracks are being said between Shastri Park, Seelampur and Rithala. And lastly the Pink and Magenta Line, where many elevated and ground sections of the lines are the target of thieves.

What steps did the metro administration take for security?
So, to deal with this very serious and mind-boggling problem, DMRC as well as Delhi Police have completely prepared a very unique and important strategy. In which the first step taken by Delhi Police is to increase patrolling on sensitive routes at night. To stop theft and catch thieves, modern technology and drone cameras are being used more and more.
Not only this, the boundary walls are being raised and barbed wires are also being installed at the places from where thieves are most likely to enter. Apart from this, Delhi Police is also targeting those scrap dealers who are buying stolen cables. Metro security is not the sole responsibility of the administration. If any citizen is caught carrying out suspicious activity around the track, they should immediately inform the security personnel.
