Subhendu Adhikari announced on Saturday that the West Bengal government has dissolved the Police Welfare Board. After an administrative review meeting at Diamond Harbor in South 24 Parganas district, he said that attacks on policemen will not be tolerated under any circumstances and law and order will be strictly enforced in the state.
‘Now there is rule of law’- Officer
Shubhendu Adhikari said that earlier ‘rule of rulers’ used to prevail in the state, but now ‘rule of law’ is in force. He said that the Police Welfare Board was formed with a good intention, but with time it had taken the form of a political organization.
He alleged that the board was being used illegally to extend the tenure of the job and to provide personal benefits to some people. For this reason the government decided to dissolve it.
Posting of women policemen in their home district
The Chief Minister also announced that priority will be given to posting women police personnel in their home districts only. He said that this will help women employees to strike a better balance between job and family responsibilities.
