Bangladesh’s 2-0 clean sweep of the Test series against Pakistan on home soil has resulted in a loss for the Indian cricket team and has slipped to sixth place in the latest World Test Championship (WTC) rankings.
Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by 78 runs in the second test match. Earlier, it had won the first test match in Mirpur by a huge margin of 104 runs. With this, his team has overtaken India in the latest update of the International Cricket Council (ICC) WTC table.
Bangladesh now have 58.33 percent points with two wins, one loss and one draw in four Test matches, while India have 48.15 points with four wins, the same number of losses and one draw in nine Test matches.
The Indian team, which reached the finals of the first two World Test Championships, is now above Pakistan in the ranking of Asian countries. This team led by Shubman Gill has not played any test match yet this year.
India will now play a one-off Test match against Afghanistan from June 6 but it is not a part of the World Test Championship.
The Indian team has to tour Sri Lanka and New Zealand later this year, where it will play two test matches each. He has to face Australia again on his home ground in 2027.
India had to face 0-2 defeat to South Africa in the home Test series, while it also lost two matches in England. The Gill-led team had drawn the five-match series 2-2 in England.
Team ranking is not decided on the basis of points but on the basis of percentage points in the WTC points table. In the 2025-2027 cycle, Bangladesh has 28 points while India has 52 points.
Pakistan team was out for 358 runs while chasing the target of 437 runs in the second test match. Pakistan is ranked eighth in the current WTC cycle with one win and three losses.
Australia has registered seven wins and one loss in eight Test matches so far in the current cycle. He continues to top the WTC points table with 87.50 percent marks. New Zealand is in second place, having scored 77.78 points after two wins and one draw in three Test matches. South Africa is at third place and Sri Lanka is at fourth place.
