America has used almost half of the total stockpile of its advanced anti-missile defense system ‘THAAD’ while protecting Israel in the war against Iran. ‘The Washington Post’ gave this news. ‘The Post’ quoted US officials as saying that while protecting Israel, America fired more than 200 ‘Terminal High Altitude Area Defense’ (THAAD) interceptors, which is almost half of America’s total stockpile. Along with this, more than 100 ‘Standard Missile-3’ and ‘Standard Missile-6’ interceptors were fired from naval ships in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea.
Israel fired fewer than 100 of its own ‘Arrow’ interceptors and about 90 ‘David’s Sling’ interceptors, some of which were used against less advanced missiles fired by Iran-backed groups in Yemen and Lebanon, The Post reported on Thursday. America and Israel started the war with Iran by attacking its military installations on February 28. In these attacks, many of Iran’s important leaders including its supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei were killed.

Iran’s counterattack and ceasefire
In response, Iran also attacked America’s allies in West Asia. A temporary ceasefire came into effect between the two sides on April 8. Since then, America and Iran have been negotiating a peace agreement to end the hostility that has continued for more than four decades. A US administration official said, “America fired a total of about 120 more interceptors.” The US military is likely to use more blockades if the US and Israel resume strikes against Iran in the coming days, as threatened by US President Donald Trump, an administration official said on Friday as the Israeli military recently decided to shut down some of its missile-defense batteries for maintenance.
Shared responsibility seen in Operation Epic Fury
The official said, “If the attacks resume, this imbalance could increase further.” The Pentagon, the headquarters of the US Department of Defense, issued a statement defending the balance of military resources used between Israel and the US. Pentagon chief spokesman Sean Parnell told The Post, “During Operation ‘Epic Fury’, both Israel and the United States bore equal burden of defense.” In this operation, both countries used fighter aircraft, unmanned anti-aircraft systems and various other advanced air and missile-defense capabilities with maximum effectiveness.
Israel also defended the strategy
The Israeli government also defended this view. “Operations ‘Roaring Lion’ and ‘Epic Fury’ were coordinated at the highest and closest levels in the interests of both countries and their allies,” the Israeli Embassy in Washington said in a statement.
