I am proud of the way the team fought in the last three matches – Akshar Patel

In the last league match of IPL 2026, Delhi Capitals (DC) performed brilliantly and defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 40 runs. DC captain Axar Patel looked happy after ending the tournament with a win. He said that he is proud of the way the team performed in the last three matches.

After the win against KKR, Axar said, “I would say that the way we played in the last three matches, even when you knew things were not going well, I am very proud of the way the team fought. No one thought that we would just give up and think that we are already out.”

The Delhi Capitals captain further said, “First of all you have to accept your mistakes. Then you will realize what you have to do better. That is the positive thing that you have to take forward. If the result of just one match had been different, things could have been very different. I think the last time we played good cricket, it was just about one match. If that one match had gone in our favour, we would have been talking differently. Like we talked at the time of the toss. The moments of catching are very important, if this had happened then perhaps we would have been in a different position.

Talking about his captaincy, Akshar said, “I have learned that IPL is a tournament where you have to take care of everything. However, at the end of the day, if you are in a good state of mind, then only you can handle everything properly. If you are not in a good mood, you can take wrong decisions or get frustrated and do something else. I think it is very important to stay calm.”

Batting first on the Eden Gardens ground on Sunday, Delhi Capitals scored 203 runs on the scoreboard after losing 5 wickets in 20 overs. On behalf of the team, KL Rahul played a strong inning of 60 runs in 30 balls, while Akshar Patel contributed 39 runs in 25 balls. However, while chasing the target of 204 runs, the entire KKR team failed to score 163 runs in 18.4 overs.
