President Draupadi Murmu on Monday honored Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Paralympic gold medalist para high jumper Praveen Kumar with the country’s fourth highest civilian honor Padma Shri. Let us tell you that in January this year, the President had announced the Padma Awards, in which 9 stalwarts including Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma were selected.

Harmanpreet Kaur created history last year, she became the first woman captain to win the World Cup for India. Kaur was awarded the Padma Shri for her illustrious career, achievements and leadership. When her name was announced, Harmanpreet Kaur had told in the video shared by Mumbai Indians that my father was informed about this over the phone from Rashtrapati Bhavan. He had expressed happiness that his parents came to know about it before him. He also congratulated Rohit Sharma and said that this is a great moment for him too.

Harmanpreet Kaur, who comes from Punjab, has played 7 Tests, 164 ODIs and 195 T20 International matches for India, in which she has scored 230, 4541 and 3991 runs respectively.

Para high jumper Praveen Kumar is a resident of Govindgarh, Uttar Pradesh, he has studied from Motilal Nehru College of Delhi University. Praveen won the gold medal (High Jump T64) in the Paris Paralympics 2024, and he won the silver medal in the Tokyo Paralympics 2020. Last year, he won the bronze medal in the World Championship held in Delhi and the gold medal in the 2022 Asian Para Games (Hangzhou).
