The US Finance Department has included Iran’s ‘Persian Gulf Strait Authority’ in the Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) list. This authority has been formed to monitor maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
The US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) alleged in a statement released on its website on Wednesday (May 27) that the authority was collecting ‘illegal fees’ from commercial ships and forcing them to follow Iranian instructions in exchange for providing safe passage. America has warned that any person or company cooperating with this organization may also be banned.
