US Ambassador Sergio Gore said on Friday that the Trump administration sees India as a major global power and wants to deepen the partnership between the two countries. Trump’s key aide and Ambassador Gore described India as one of the new centers of power with which Washington is actively trying to engage.

“This administration is identifying new centers of power,” Gore said. We understand the immense potential of India. We are looking at the development potential of India. We are expanding and strengthening this partnership. Earlier this week, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited India in an effort to improve relations that had deteriorated in recent months.
Trump’s statements surprised India
Donald Trump’s decisions have repeatedly troubled New Delhi. His administration imposed a 50 percent tariff on Indian goods. Publicly supported Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, attempted to intervene in the Kashmir issue, softened its stance against China in the trade war, and faced criticism for promoting anti-India rhetoric in the US.
In which areas are India and America working together?
Despite the tension, Gore focused on areas where cooperation between the two countries is continuously increasing. He pointed to the expansion of the ICET initiative, which originally focused on semiconductor, AI and quantum technologies. Apart from this, important mineral supply chains, energy and space technology are also included. According to Gore, cooperation in these areas has started showing results and investments are coming from both the countries.
How much did India invest in America?
He said that companies like Amazon are part of about $35 billion of investments coming into India, while Indian companies have invested about $20 billion in America. Gore further said that every week someone comes to the embassy and asks whether it is safe to invest in India, then we say yes. Gore also stressed that Washington wants to strengthen cooperation in the healthcare and pharmaceuticals sectors and pointed out that India supplies about 40 percent of generic drugs sold in the US.
