Amidst the ongoing controversy regarding CBSE marks, the discussion had intensified as to whether the eligibility condition of 75 per cent marks prescribed for admission to IIT through JEE could be given a one-time relaxation this year. However, IIT Roorkee has made its stand clear on this issue.
According to reports, IIT Roorkee says that there will be no relaxation in the eligibility condition of 75 percent marks this year. The institute says that through JEE, students from 36 different education boards across the country participate in the admission process, hence it is not possible to change the eligibility rules on the basis of a dispute related to any one board.
According to IIT Roorkee, the eligibility rule of 75 percent marks was made public long ago. The institute said that this criteria was released in the month of December itself, so that all the students and parents can get information about it in time and can make their preparations accordingly.

What did the institute say?
The institute also informed that last year there were many students who, despite clearing the JEE exam, had lost their seats in top institutes like IITs and NITs simply because they did not have the prescribed percentage of marks. In such a situation, reducing or changing the eligibility criteria this year would not be fair to other students.
IIT Roorkee said that it is very important to maintain equality and transparency in the admission process. Lakhs of students from different states and education boards are part of this process, so it is necessary to apply uniform rules for all.

However, the institute also clarified that it is in constant touch with CBSE and efforts are being made to resolve the problems of the students who have been affected by the current situation. IIT Roorkee said that efforts will be made to resolve the issues of the affected students on priority basis.
