‘Pakistan will always be grateful to Trump for his intervention in military conflict with India’, said PAK PM Shahbaz Sharif

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan will always be grateful for the timely intervention of US President Donald Trump in ending the military conflict with India. Speaking at a reception organized by the US Embassy on Thursday (June 4, 2026) on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of American independence, Shahbaz described Pakistan-US relations as a true and special relationship that has continued for almost eight decades.

Referring to the four-day long military conflict between India and Pakistan after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir last year that killed 26 people, Shahbaz Sharif said that Trump’s intervention played an important role in ending the conflict.

He claimed, ‘Trump made timely and decisive intervention in the conflict that started after India’s air strike on terrorist hideouts after the Pahalgam attack last year, due to which the military conflict between Pakistan and India stopped on May 10, 2025.’ Shahbaz said, ‘We will always be grateful to President Trump for restoring peace in South Asia and saving the lives of millions of people. In this context, he will always be remembered as a peace-loving person.

After the Pahalgam attack, India had launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ on May 7 last year, the target of which was Pakistan and terrorist structures in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Trump has repeatedly claimed that he helped establish peace between India and Pakistan after the military conflict. However, India has consistently maintained that the agreement was signed directly between the two countries and has rejected claims of third party mediation.

Shahbaz also praised Trump’s unique leadership style, saying that the US President has infused energy and determination into Washington’s international activities and protecting its interests. The Prime Minister said that under his courageous and visionary leadership, America continues to inspire confidence and dynamism while pursuing peace, progress and prosperity.

He said, ‘Our relationship is a true and special one, which spans nearly eight decades and includes not only cooperation in security and counter-terrorism activities, but also equally in trade, investment, agriculture, science, education, health, energy and people-to-people exchanges.’

On regional diplomacy, Shahbaz claimed that Pakistan was playing an important role in establishing contacts between the US and Iran and thanked Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir for his contribution to peace efforts.
