Coaching Hubs: On the night of 2 June 2026, there was chaos in Musallahpur Haat area of Patna. This place is called the biggest educational hub of Bihar. The coaching center ‘Khan Global Studies’ of the famous educator Faizal Khan i.e. ‘Khan Sir’ is located here. Khan sir claimed that there was firing outside his centre, the security guard was badly beaten and he had to be admitted to the hospital. He even said that 8-10 rounds were fired. However, the very next day the police denied this claim. The police also arrested three people including the director of Gyan Bindu Coaching. After this incident, this question is often arising in the minds of people that how big is the coaching industry of India and which cities in the country are known as coaching hubs.
Kota is still the coaching capital of the country
Whenever there is talk of coaching hub, the name of Kota of Rajasthan comes first. This city is famous throughout the country for preparation for engineering and medical entrance examinations. Every year lakhs of students come here to study. Along with coaching, a big business of hostel, PG, library, mess and stationery also runs in Kota. This is the reason why a large part of the local economy here depends on students. Despite the increase in online education in the last few years, Kota’s popularity remains intact and it is still considered the largest coaching center in the country.

Patna rapidly becomes the second largest coaching hub
In the last few years, Patna, the capital of Bihar, has rapidly gained recognition in the coaching sector. According to reports and various estimates, about 6,383 coaching institutes are running in Bihar. Of these, about 1,256 coaching institutes are present in Patna alone. It is estimated that the coaching industry of Patna directly and indirectly affects the economic turnover of more than Rs 15 thousand crores. Every year around 2 lakh students prepare for competitive exams, the number of institutes which prepare for exams like Engineering, Medical, SSC, Banking, Railways, UPSC and BPSC is continuously increasing. Khan Sir, many big institutes providing preparation for BPSC, SSC, Railway and other competitive examinations have made Patna the major education center of Eastern India.
Experts associated with the education sector estimate that the coaching industry of Patna directly and indirectly affects the economic turnover of about Rs 15 thousand crores. This includes coaching fees as well as hostel, PG, house rent, food, transportation, books, stationery and other expenses. This is the reason why Patna is now not only the capital of Bihar, but has also become one of the biggest education centers of Eastern India.
Big network spread in many cities including Mukherjee Nagar
Mukherjee Nagar of Delhi is also counted among the most popular coaching hubs of the country. A large number of students come here especially those preparing for UPSC, SSC and other government job examinations. Apart from this, cities like Prayagraj, Jaipur, Hyderabad and Pune have also become big centers of coaching industry. In these cities, not only coaching institutes, but also hostels, rented houses, restaurants, book shops and libraries provide employment to thousands of people. Education experts believe that India’s coaching industry is continuously growing and its size may become bigger in the coming years.
