After the news of loss of contact with Indian crewed ship Liaki Freedom near Oman coast, rumors of attack on it spread rapidly on social media. However, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) immediately clarified the situation and said that the master of the ship has been contacted, all the crew members are completely safe and the reports of the attack are completely false and baseless.
Foreign Ministry issued fact check
Releasing a fact check on social media, the Ministry of External Affairs said that there has been no attack on Liaiki Freedom. The ministry appealed to the people to be cautious of fake and misleading news going viral on social media and not to trust them.
Contact with the ship was lost for some time
According to the Forward Seamen’s Union of India, the ship’s VHF radio was not responding for some time, raising concerns. However, the organization had tracked the location of the ship and received information that it was safe at sea.
Concern increased after American attacks
In recent times, after the incidents of attacks on several ships with Indian crew in the Gulf of Oman, apprehensions were also raised about Liaiki Freedom. For this reason, as soon as the news of loss of contact came out, rumors of attack spread on social media.

Three Indian sailors have died
In the last few days, three Indian sailors have died in attacks on ships with Indian crew in the Gulf region. The US Central Command had attributed the responsibility for these attacks to the actions of the US Navy, while US President Donald Trump held Iran responsible for it.
Jaishankar lodged protest with America
Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar spoke to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio over phone and registered India’s strong protest over the death of Indian sailors. He said that such lethal action on commercial ships is not justified under any circumstances.

Three Indians lost their lives in the Setebelo ship accident
Three Indian sailors went missing in the attack on Palau-flagged ship MT Setebelo, who were later confirmed dead. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that arrangements are being made to bring the mortal remains of the deceased to India soon.
Crews of other ships safe
After a fire in the engine room of MT Jalveer this week, the crew was evacuated to Shinas port in Oman, where all the Indian sailors were said to be safe. Even after the attack on MT Marivex, 24 Indians aboard were rescued safely.
Appeal to avoid rumors
The Ministry of External Affairs has made it clear that the news of attack on Liaki Freedom is completely wrong. The government has appealed to the people to trust only official information and avoid sharing unconfirmed news spreading on social media.
