The Indian women’s cricket team has started its journey in the T20 World Cup 2026 with a resounding victory against Pakistan. India defeated Pakistan by 64 runs. Star all-rounder Deepti Sharma’s memorable bowling played an important role in India’s strong victory over Pakistan, and for this she was adjudged Player of the Match.
Deepti bowled excellently and took 5 wickets while giving only 10 runs in 4 overs. With this performance, Deepti became the third Indian woman bowler to take 5 wickets in the T20 World Cup.
Before Deepti, Renuka Thakur and Priyanka Roy had achieved this feat. Renuka took 5 wickets for 15 runs against England in the 2023 World Cup. Priyanka Roy had taken 5 wickets for 16 runs against Pakistan in 2009. Deepti’s spell has been more economical than both of them.

If we look at the match, India won the toss and batted first and scored 170 runs at the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. Mandhana scored an excellent half-century for India. She was out after scoring 68 runs on 44 balls. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur scored 36 runs in 35 balls. At the end of the innings, wicketkeeper batsman Richa Ghosh played an inning of 34 runs in 17 balls with the help of 1 six and 5 fours.
Muniba Ali was the only successful batsman for Pakistan to achieve the target of 171 runs. Muniba scored 41 runs on 35 balls. Apart from this, all the batsmen were flops. The entire Pakistan team was reduced to 106 runs in 17 overs.
Apart from Deepti Sharma, Shri Charani also bowled lethally for India. Charani took 3 wickets for 21 runs in 4 overs. Shefali Verma got 1 wicket.
