Iran Shipping Regulations: After the agreement between America and Iran, the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important sea routes, has been reopened for commercial ships. But along with this, Iran has now imposed new conditions for all the ships passing through here. Global oil and gas supply may be affected through this rule.
According to the new rules, now prior registration, government permission and strong insurance is necessary for any ship of any country to pass through the sea route. Without this no ship can pass through this route. The main objective of this rule is to strengthen security and surveillance.
What are the two new conditions?
- To handle this entire system, Iran has created a new organization named ‘Persian Gulf Strait Authority’ (PGSA), which will control the entry and permission of all ships.
- Now ships will have to submit their transit request 48 hours before entering the Strait of Hormuz.
Apart from this, it has been made mandatory for all ships to pass through designated safe corridors only, so that they do not become victims of any kind of accident.
