ICC is preparing to take a big decision on the final match of the World Test Championship. Till now, every final of the WTC has been played in England and the 2027 final will be played at the historic Lord’s ground. Meanwhile, news has come out that ICC may snatch the hosting of the final match of WTC 2027 from Lord’s ground.
According to The Telegraph, ICC and ECB are discussing to have the final match at The Oval instead of Lord’s ground. No final decision has been taken on this yet, but according to the report, the discussion on changing the venue of the final has progressed well.
It is being told that ICC is unhappy with the pitch of Lord’s ground. Recently, the test match between England and New Zealand was played at Lord’s ground, which ended on the second day itself. After that the Lord’s pitch was heavily criticized. Even England captain Ben Stokes had described the pitch as bad. ICC had also given one demerit point to the Lord’s pitch after that match.
If the hosting of the final of the World Test Championship 2027 is snatched from Lord’s ground, then Kennington Oval ground can be made the new host of the final. The 2021 final was played in Southampton, where New Zealand defeated India by 8 wickets in the final.
The 2023 final was played at the Oval ground in London, this time Australia won the title by defeating Team India in the final. Two years later, the final of WTC 2025 was played at Lord’s and this time South Africa won the title of champion. It had won over Australia in the final.
