US Central Command (CENTCOM) clearly said on Saturday (20 June 2026) that Iran has no control over the Strait of Hormuz. This statement has come at a time when tension has increased in the entire West Asia after Israeli attacks in Lebanon. Meanwhile, Iran announced the closure of this important sea route.
According to Al Jazeera’s report, a CENTCOM spokesperson said that Iran has no right on this route. The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the most important sea routes in the world, because a large amount of oil and gas is supplied to the world from here.
CENTCOM said that the US military is constantly monitoring the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. Their main objective is to ensure that the movement of ships through this sea route continues without interruption. The spokesperson also said that maintaining safe maritime travel and protecting commercial ships is America’s first priority.

IRGC’s big announcement
This statement came when Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Iran says that Israeli attacks on Lebanon are a violation of the ceasefire agreement made under the 14-point Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the US and Iran. According to Iranian state broadcaster Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), the IRGC Navy has issued a statement warning ships not to approach the Strait of Hormuz. It was also said that this sea route has been closed for the time being.

The Public Relations Department of the IRGC Navy said that this decision has been taken due to Israel’s actions in Lebanon and the violation of promises made by the US. In view of the crimes of the Zionist regime in Lebanon and the violation of US promises regarding ceasefire, the Strait of Hormuz is closed to all ships. IRGC has clearly warned the ships not to enter this area. He says that if any ship comes to this area, its safety may be in danger. He further said that the Strait of Hormuz is closed and ships should not go near it, otherwise their safety may be at serious risk.
