Pakistan’s security forces foiled a terrorist attack on Sindh Rangers headquarters in Karachi on Saturday (June 27) night, killing six insurgents and capturing one alive. Four Pakistani soldiers have also died in this attack.
According to security sources, insurgents of Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, an organization affiliated with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), attacked the Bhittai wing headquarters of Sindh Rangers located in the densely populated Gulistan-e-Jauhar area of Karachi at around 8:30 pm on Saturday night. In a fierce encounter that lasted for about 90 minutes, Special Security Unit (SSU) commandos and Anti-Terrorist Force (ATF) along with Rangers fought the rebels. 4 Rangers were also killed in this attack.
Amidst the fierce firing, security forces closed the entire complex and surrounding roads. Local people were advised to stay indoors, while electricity was also switched off in some nearby areas. Jamaat-ul-Ahrar has taken responsibility for this attack. This organization is linked to TTP, which is mainly active in Pakistan’s north-western province Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and has been attacking civilians, security forces and government officials.
There was a big attack in Karachi in 2024
This is the first major terrorist attack in Karachi since October 2024. Two Chinese engineers were killed in a suicide blast near Karachi airport. The banned organization Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) had taken responsibility for this incident. According to preliminary investigation, the terrorists entered the premises by breaking the main gate of the Rangers headquarters in a vehicle and threw grenades as soon as they entered, causing multiple explosions.
Sindh CM ordered investigation
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has directed the police chief and Karachi’s Additional Inspector General of Police to submit a detailed report of the incident. Rescue 1122 Sindh said that it had received information about the explosion near Block-5 of Gulistan-e-Jauhar, after which relief and rescue teams were immediately dispatched from the central control room.
Let us tell you that this attack has happened at a time when tension between Pakistan and Afghanistan has increased since the end of last year. Pakistan’s army and intelligence agencies have been continuously accusing the Taliban government of Afghanistan of providing safe havens to TTP and carrying out cross-border attacks. In response, Pakistan Army also took action several times against alleged bases and training camps of TTP inside Afghanistan.
