Ravichandran Ashwin has set out on a new journey in his cricket career. He has joined Rahul Dravid’s team Dublin Guardians in the European T20 Premier League (ETPL) as captain and mentor. Let us tell you that this year, former Indian captain Rahul Dravid became the owner of Dublin Guardians franchise.
Ashwin has said goodbye to international cricket and has also retired from the Indian Premier League after the 2025 season. ICC has officially approved ETPL. Ashwin will not only play the role of captain in the Dublin team but will also contribute in making strategies for the team and the betterment of the players.
Rahul Dravid has already confirmed that he will not interfere in cricket related activities nor will he be present in the dugout. This makes the role of Ravichandran Ashwin very important in the success of Dublin Guardians. Somewhere the burden of running the team is going to be on Ashwin.
After retiring from international cricket, R Ashwin became the first Indian cricketer to join Australia’s BBL. He was included by Sydney Thunder in their squad, but could not play in BBL 2026 due to injury. At the beginning of the year 2026, he became the first cricketer to play in Major Cricket League Cricket (MLC), where he played for San Francisco Unicorns.
There will be a total of 6 teams in the European T20 Premier League, whose names have been given to the cities of Amsterdam, Belfast, Edinburgh, Dublin, Glasgow and Rotterdam. Steve Smith, Mitchell Marsh, Tim David, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Santner, Faf du Plessis and Heinrich Klaasen will also play in this league.
