The first match of the T20 series between India and England at the Riverside Ground on Wednesday remained inconclusive due to rain. In this match, only the Indian team could bat, in which Abhishek Sharma and captain Shreyas Iyer scored half-centuries.

Team India, who came to bat after winning the toss, scored 189 runs after losing 7 wickets despite a bad start. The visiting team had lost 2 wickets in the form of Sanju Samson (1) and Ishan Kishan (0) till the score of just 6. From here, Abhishek Sharma along with captain Shreyas Iyer took control of the team by scoring 82 runs in 38 balls for the third wicket.

Abhishek was out after scoring 59 runs in 24 balls with 4 sixes and 6 fours. During this, he completed his half-century in just 20 balls. After this Captain Iyer took charge. He made a partnership of 36 runs with Tilak Verma (13) and 41 runs with Shivam Dubey and took the team to a huge score.

Iyer was out after scoring 68 runs in 47 balls with 7 boundaries, while Dubey played an unbeaten inning of 42 runs in 21 balls with 3 sixes and 2 fours. Saqib Mahmood took maximum 3 wickets for the host team. Adil Rashid and Sam Curran took 1-1 wicket.

It continued to drizzle during the Indian innings. When the players were leaving the field after the 20th over, the rain intensified and the ground staff put up covers to cover the field. Despite the wait of the players of both the teams, it continued. He waited till 9 pm local time, which was the last scheduled time for five overs of play.

Ultimately, the umpires decided that the match could not be restarted and canceled it. Both the captains came out of their respective dressing rooms and shook hands with each other before going back.

Both the countries will play the next match in Manchester on 4th July, after which the next matches of the series will be played on 7th July (Nottingham), 9th July (Bristol) and 11th July (Southampton).
