World Club Championship: The International Cricket Council (ICC) is considering making many major changes. Many big decisions can be taken keeping in mind the future of all three formats of cricket. Reportedly, the ICC Annual General Meeting (AGM) may be held in Edinburgh, Scotland under the chairmanship of Jay Shah from July 8 to 11, in which the idea of launching another league like the Indian Premier League (IPL) may also be considered. According to the report of The Guardian, World Club Championship can be launched for T20 franchises playing around the world. This will be a league similar to the Champions T20 League played between 2009 and 2014, in which T20 franchises from different countries participated.
The Champions League was jointly organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Cricket Australia and South Africa Cricket Board. The league was not very successful, due to which it ended after 6 seasons.
Now a plan is being made to restart a similar league. At present all these plans are still in the initial stage. There has been no official information of any kind regarding all this. Yes, it is certain that representatives of 12 full member cricket countries will attend the meeting. With this, the possibility can definitely be expressed that such a league can be brought into existence with everyone’s consent.
Fixed window for all formats
It can also be discussed in the meeting that a fixed window should be fixed for all three formats. For example, before the ODI Cricket World Cup, ODI cricket will be played only for 18 months. The remaining window will be reserved for Test and T20 cricket. Apart from this, there can also be discussion on shortening the ODI format, so that the format can be made more suitable according to the times. At present, official information on many things is awaited.
