One such cricketer from UP is Vinayak Shukla, who has been appointed by Oman as the captain of its international men’s cricket team. Vinayak will now take charge of the Oman team in place of Jatinder Singh.
Oman Cricket announced its new captain on social media, saying, “The beginning of a new chapter. Oman Cricket proudly announces Vinayak Shukla as the captain of the Oman men’s cricket team.” 32 year old Vinayak Shukla was earlier the vice-captain of the Oman team. Now he has been made the captain in place of Jatinder Singh.
Who is Vinayak Shukla?
Vinayak Shukla, born on June 18, 1994 in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, moved to Oman in 2021 in search of better opportunities on the advice of his coach. After this, to meet his daily expenses, he worked as a data operator in ‘National Metal Cans’. Along with this he also continued playing cricket. Vinayak made his debut in international cricket for Oman in a T20 match on 14 December 2024. After this, he made his ODI debut against Namibia in the Asia Cup on 10 February 2025. Vinayak Shukla became Oman’s favorite wicketkeeper, he has impressed especially in T20 cricket by scoring fast runs in the middle order.
Vinayak Shukla has played 15 ODI matches in his career so far, in which he scored 312 runs at an average of 26. In 23 T20 Internationals, he has scored 447 runs with 2 half-centuries. Vinayak Shukla has not played domestic cricket in India. He has played club cricket for Calcutta Custom in Bengal.
