- NMC found rule violations in 70 medical colleges.
- Mandatory 25 CCTV, NVR and recording rules were not followed.
- The Commission directed to immediately follow these rules.
- These rules are for transparency and monitoring in colleges.
If your medical college is not following the rules of the National Medical Commission (NMC), then problems may increase. The Commission has identified 70 medical colleges and institutions which have not yet fulfilled the mandatory rules related to CCTV cameras and surveillance systems. NMC has directed all these institutions to immediately follow the rules.
In the public notice issued by NMC, it has been clearly stated that all the medical colleges under its purview will have to install 25 CCTV cameras in the campus as per the prescribed standards. Along with this, it is also necessary to install Network Video Recorder (NVR) and save the recordings of the cameras for at least 30 days. Not only this, colleges will also have to share the feed of their NVR with the Commission.
The Commission said that this is not a new rule. These instructions have already been issued through different rules and notifications. These include UG Medical Education Standard Regulations (UGMSR-2023), PG Medical Education Standard Regulations (PGMSR-2023 Revision) and MARB Regulations-2023. Despite this, many medical colleges have still not been able to follow them.

What did NMC say?
According to NMC, those institutions which have not yet connected their CCTV systems and NVR with the Commission were continuously contacted. Even after several reminders, some colleges did not make necessary arrangements. For this reason, now the Commission has issued a public notice and instructed all the institutions to immediately implement the rules.
The Commission says that CCTV system in medical colleges is not just a formality, but an important part of ensuring transparency and monitoring. This helps in keeping an eye on the activities happening in the institutions and the regulatory system can be strengthened.
The notice mentions those 70 medical colleges and institutions which are not yet following the prescribed standards. The Commission has asked these institutions to complete the process of installing CCTV cameras, installing NVR and sharing its feed without any delay.
