On Thursday (July 9, 2026), a massive fire broke out in a shoe factory in Xinjiang city of China, in which 28 people died. The Ministry of Emergency Management has sent a joint task force to Jinjiang city in East China’s Fujian province to guide rescue and relief operations after the fire. The ministry said that the fire broke out at around 12 noon.
According to the news of government news agency ‘Xinhua’, Chinese President Xi Jinping has directed officials to make every possible effort in search and rescue operations, find out the cause of the incident and fix accountability.

Jinping talked about giving strict punishment to the culprits
Xi Jinping said, ‘The cause of the accident should be identified as soon as possible and those responsible should be severely punished.’ A massive fire broke out in the lower floors of the building. At the same time, people can be seen running here and there to save their lives near the windows and on the roof of the building. The Emergency Ministry said that every possible effort is being made to extinguish the fire, search for trapped people and treat the injured.
China’s campaign did not work
According to Xinhua report, some people were stranded and contact with them had been lost. China launched a campaign against fire hazards in high-rise buildings in November 2025 after a massive fire broke out in several tower blocks in Hong Kong, killing 168 people. Only a month after this, 12 people had died in a fire in a residential building in Guangdong province of southern China and now once again a massive fire has broken out in a shoe factory.
