Big Bash League match will be held in Chennai, PM Modi announced, reached Melbourne Cricket Ground with Steve Waugh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) during his Australia tour. During this, emphasis was laid on further strengthening sports diplomacy between India and Australia. The Prime Minister met Australia’s international mascot ‘Ruby the Roo’ during his visit to the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

During this, there were discussions on cooperation in cricket, sports related infrastructure, development of players, sharing of information, working together on big global sports events like IPL-BBL partnership and 2032 Brisbane Olympics and India’s bid for 2036 Olympics. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and former Australian men’s cricket team captain Steve Waugh were also present along with PM Modi.

A historic decision was taken to increase sports cooperation between India and Australia. In December this year, the opening match of Australia’s famous T-20 league Big Bash League (BBL) will be held in Chennai. Let us tell you that this will be the first time in history, when a foreign cricket league will play its match on Indian soil. Thus, this event will be the main attraction of the week-long G-Day Namaste to be organized across India. In this, a glimpse of many programs related to Australia’s culture, business and sports will be seen.

What did PM Modi say at Melbourne Cricket Ground?
Referring to the historicity of Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in his address, PM Modi said, “By coming to MCG, two emotions come together in the mind of any Indian. One is the thrill of the India-Australia match and the other is the realization that cricket is not just a game in both the countries, but a common passion.” PM Modi further said that today there is no pressure of last over finish. Today there is only the joy of sport, the warmth of our friendship and the energy of future champions.

India-Australia Sports Collaboration Roadmap
PM Modi, along with Albanese, launched the India-Australia Sports Collaboration Roadmap. He said that under this we will strengthen cooperation in cricket as well as other sports. Expressing happiness, PM Modi said, “Sports is a strong link in the relations between India and Australia. We will also strengthen out-field partnership. We will move forward together in the field of sports training, sports science and technology. Under this roadmap, cooperation in cricket as well as other sports will also be strengthened.”
