US Iran War: The world had just started getting relief. The supply of oil and gas was back on track. After the ceasefire between America and Iran, there was hope that peace would prevail in West Asia. But after just a few weeks the situation changed again. The Strait of Hormuz has once again become the world’s most dangerous battlefield. The military conflict between America and Iran has started again and its effects are visible all over the world.
Tension started in the Strait of Hormuz. According to the US claim, Iranian forces took action against three commercial ships passing near the coast of Oman. America alleges that the ships were not following the sea route set by Iran, after which they were fired upon. Washington considered this a violation of the recent agreement and President Donald Trump immediately approved military action. After this, the US Air Force and Navy carried out large-scale attacks on many military bases of Iran for two consecutive days.
US-Iran face to face
According to the US Army, Iran’s air defense system, coastal surveillance network, missile and drone depots, naval capabilities and many military bases were targeted in these attacks. Iranian media has also confirmed massive explosions and a series of airstrikes in Bandar Abbas, Sirik and Bushehr. The Shahid Haqqani port of Bandar Abbas was set on fire, while several military installations were also attacked in Serik and Bushehr.
The biggest concern is about the attacks around the Bushehr Nuclear Power Centre. According to Iranian media, the explosions occurred near military installations located in Bushehr, although it is not yet clear whether the nuclear plant has been damaged or not. Apart from this, America also targeted Chabahar port, Iranshahr military base and two railway bridges in Golestan province. One of these bridges is said to be part of the China-Iran Rail Corridor, which is also used by Russia.
Iran alleges that the US Army also attacked the roads and bridges leading to Mashhad. In the same Mashhad, late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is being laid to rest. The Iranian government claims that the purpose of these attacks was to create instability in the country during the funeral.
According to Iran’s Health Ministry, at least 14 people have died and 78 have been injured in the last two days of US bombing. The ministry says that after these attacks in five provinces, the injured are being treated in different hospitals.
US President Donald Trump shared videos of the attacks on social media, calling them “retaliation against Iran”. Trump says that America will not remain silent if Iran attacks ships in the Strait of Hormuz. While US Vice President J.D. Vance also warned that if international ships were targeted in Hormuz, the consequences would be very serious.
On the other hand, Iran has described American action as a violation of the agreement. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said that Iran will not bow down to threats and military pressure. According to him, Iran will decide the arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz and American pressure will not be accepted.
In response to the American attacks, Iran also started retaliatory military action. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed to target US military bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan with missiles and drones. There have been reports of attacks on Arifjan and Al-Salem airbases in Kuwait, Jufair and Sheikh Isa airbases in Bahrain and US military bases in Qatar.
After these attacks, air alerts were issued in Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait. Bahrain’s Interior Ministry sounded sirens and advised people to evacuate, while the Kuwaiti army confirmed that its air defense system was active to intercept Iranian missiles and drones. There have also been reports of missile activities in the skies of Jordan.
Tehran claims counterattack
Meanwhile, Iran has claimed that it has shot down an enemy drone that had entered its airspace. According to Mehr News Agency, the drone was intercepted and destroyed by the Iranian air defense system. However, it was not made clear which country the drone belonged to.
In the report of American media ABC News, quoting an American official, it has been claimed that since the beginning of the war, 30 MQ-9 Reaper drones of America have been destroyed. The estimated cost of each drone is said to be around $30 million. However, the US Defense Department has not officially confirmed this claim.
This entire incident has increased the concern about the world’s energy security. A large part of the world’s oil trade passes through the Strait of Hormuz. If tensions increase further, global oil and gas supply could be seriously affected. Its effect is also visible in the markets and there is a possibility of a rise in energy prices again.
Analysts believe that if this military conflict between America and Iran progresses, then not only West Asia but the entire world may get trapped in economic and strategic crisis. At the same time, eyes are also focused on the role of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It is believed that if tensions increase further, Israel may again intensify military operations against Iran and its allies.
At present the situation is very tense. The armies of both the countries are on high alert, the Strait of Hormuz has again become the center of global conflict and the whole world is now keeping an eye on whether this conflict remains limited or takes the form of a major regional war.
