What is Meta’s new privacy update?
Meta has started releasing a new software update for its AI glasses. According to the company, if the system detects that the white LED light that burns during recording has been covered, modified or an attempt is made to damage it, the camera will automatically turn off. The user will not be able to record photos or videos until the LED light returns to normal state.
Why does the LED light come on during recording?
Meta’s AI glasses have a white LED light that glows when recording. It blinks for a few seconds while taking a photo, while it remains lit continuously during video recording. Its purpose is to let the people around know that the camera is recording. The company has also clarified that no separate option has been given to switch off this LED light.
Why did this change have to be made?
In recent times, some people had discovered such methods with the help of which recording was being done secretly by covering the LED light with tape or by making technical changes in it. Some people had also started providing such modification services. After this, questions started being raised regarding privacy and pressure increased on the company to strengthen the security system. For this reason, Meta has connected the camera with LED light, so that if the light does not work then the camera will not be able to record.

Security further strengthened in second generation glass
According to the company, the second generation AI glasses already had a system that would turn off the camera when the LED light was covered. Now this security has been further strengthened. Even if someone tries to damage the LED light by making technical changes inside the device, the camera will automatically stop working.
Action will also be taken against such advertisements and accounts
Meta said it will remove advertisements, posts and marketplace listings from all its platforms that promote LED light removal or replacement services. Such accounts will be banned. If necessary, the company will also take legal action against those people and businesses who are providing such modification services.
