India has reacted to the protests against Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the protests in PoJK are actually the result of the anger of the people there because they have been facing exploitation, lack of basic rights and administrative atrocities for decades in the area under illegal occupation of Pakistan.

The world should hold Pakistan responsible: India

The Foreign Ministry said, ‘Instead of addressing the legitimate grievances of the local people, the Government of Pakistan started carrying out brutality through the police. The administration has targeted helpless women and children, stopped the supply of essential items like food and medicine, cut off the internet and opened fire on unarmed civilians, resulting in the loss of many lives. We hope that the rest of the world will hold Pakistan fully responsible for these serious atrocities and wrongdoings.

Preparations for a big demonstration against the government in PoK

Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) has announced to march towards Muzaffarabad on July 15. JAAC has appealed to the people of the entire area to join the protest in large numbers. Dozens of people were killed in the recent unrest in PoK. Citing reports, JAAC said that two more soldiers were killed in Pakistani Army firing. Tension has increased in the area due to the action being taken by Pakistani Army in PoK.

On Sunday (12 July 2026) in PoJK, Pakistani forces opened fire on a peaceful protest rally of Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC). The report of news agency ANI claimed that about 40 thousand people had gathered in that demonstration. JAAC alleges that many people were seriously injured in the firing by Pakistani security forces.
