Social activist Sonam Wangchuk is sitting on hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. A public interest litigation (PIL) was filed regarding his hunger strike, which was heard in the Delhi High Court on Thursday (July 16). The court expressed serious concern about his health. The court said that every person’s life is important. He has also given an instruction to the Central Government.
Delhi High Court, while hearing Wangchuk’s case, said that the life of every citizen is important and it is the responsibility of the government to make every possible effort to protect his life. During the hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing on behalf of the Central Government and Delhi Government, assured the court that Sonam Wangchuk will be examined by doctors every day. He told the court that Sonam Wangchuk is monitored every day and a report is also prepared.
The court questioned whether any arrangement has been made to monitor the health of Sonam Wangchuk. In response to this, the Solicitor General said that Wangchuk undergoes daily medical check-up. Government doctors arrive whenever they allow.
What instructions did the court give regarding Wangchuk?
The court said in its order that doctors should continue to examine Wangchuk every day. He directed the Central Government that if in the opinion of doctors, any kind of medical help is needed, then appropriate steps should be taken immediately. The court also said that the life of every person is precious and it is the responsibility of the government to ensure its safety.
Let us tell you that Sonam Wangchuk is on hunger strike for the last 19 days regarding the paper leak issue. Along with them, members of Cockroach Janata Party are also on strike. The ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi has not ended yet.
