The case of 6 Shiv Sena UBT MPs breaking away and joining Shiv Sena Shinde has reached the Supreme Court. On Tuesday, July 21, Shiv Sena UBT’s lawyer demanded an immediate hearing on the matter. The Chief Justice assured him to put the matter up for hearing soon.
Senior advocate Devdutt Kamat, appearing for the Uddhav faction, while presenting the case, said, “The dispute between the two factions is already pending in the Supreme Court. The Speaker has approved the merger of the MPs. In this way, our party will no longer be able to function in the Parliament. This is a decision taken to influence the current session of the Parliament.”

Joined Eknath Shinde led Shiv Sena
Keep in mind that 6 MPs from Uddhav Thackeray led Shiv Sena have joined Eknath Shinde led Shiv Sena. The six MPs who merged are Sanjay Deshmukh (Yavatmal), Sanjay Jadhav (Parbhani), Sanjay Dina Patil (Mumbai North East), Nagesh Patil-Ashtikar (Hingoli), Omprakash Rajenimbalkar (Dharashiv) and Bhausaheb Wakchore (Shirdi). Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has approved this merger. After the merger, the number of MPs of Shiv Sena (Shinde) has increased from 7 to 13, while Shiv Sena (UBT) is now left with only 3 MPs.
Shiv Sena’s UBT reaches Supreme Court
Shiv Sena reached the Supreme Court against the Speaker’s order. UBT says that this order issued late night just before the commencement of the Parliament session has completely stalled the parliamentary work of their party. The party also says that elected MPs cannot merge with any rival party without its consent.
The dispute is already pending
In 2022, Uddhav Thackeray had to lose power in Maharashtra after the rebellion in Shiv Sena under the leadership of Eknath Shinde. On 17 February 2023, the Election Commission had found Eknath Shinde’s claim on Shiv Sena to be true. The Commission had allotted Shiv Sena’s original election symbol ‘bow and arrow’ to the Shinde faction. Uddhav camp had reached the Supreme Court against this. The matter is pending since then.
